Deborah Peagler

Deborah Peagler, 50, died on the morning of June 10, 2010, after a hard fought 18-month battle with terminal lung cancer – and an even harder fought seven years to win her freedom from California state prison. Deborah was convicted in 1983 of first-degree murder in connection with the gang-orchestrated slaying of her abuser of many years.

In the aftermath of her abused past, subsequent 27 years of incarceration, and final ten months of her life as a free person, Deborah earned two associates degrees, worked in an electronics manufacturing plant, graduated from a battered womens support group, mentored many women in prison, and mothered two children.
